A roll of 120 holds sixteen frames. A roll of 35mm holds thirty-six. There is no machine-gun spray, no chimping at the back of the body between shots. Every frame is a choice made in real time — and that constraint is what gives the work its quietness.
The other thing film does is forgive. Skin looks like skin, candlelight looks like candlelight, white dresses don't blow out at the shoulder. The grain is real grain. A wedding, on film, ages like the marriage does — slowly, and well.
